Enhance The Reactivity Of Alkali Metals

Alkali metals and their alloys are useful reagents due to their strong ability to donate an electron to perform reduction reactions. However, their pyrophoric nature and ease of oxidation makes their use within laboratories and chemical industries extremely limited. To remove the challenges associated with their use, scientists have tried numerous methods towards stabilization, such as dispersion in oils, solvation in liquid ammonia, and deposition onto various inorganic supports.

SiGNa's stabilized alkali metal-alumina gel materials (M-AG) transform all of the alkali metals, including lithium metal, into free-flowing, easily-handled powders that must be stored under inert atmosphere capable of performing straight-forward reduction, base, and catalyzed reactions. These powders contain atomically dispersed alkali metals, which enable an enhanced reactivity over the parent alkali metal. These powders are also capable of derivatization within reaction processes to generate a broad range of in-situ organolithium and lithium-amide reagents.
